Zentis is one of Europe’s leading companies for processing fruits. The fruit expert is based in Aachen. The business segments are structured in four divisions: fruit preparations for dairy products, fruit preparations and pastes for baking products and confectionery, fruit spreads and sweet spreads, and confectionery products. Zentis was established in Aachen in 1893. Today, the company employs 1,995 people worldwide. In 2011, group revenue amounted to some 643 million euros. 67 percent was attributable to fruit preparations and 17 percent to spreads. The proportion of confectionery was twelve percent, while fillings for baking products contributed around three percent.
International position
The company is positioned with a broad international base and supplies virtually all markets in Europe, Asia, North America, Australia and Oceania with specialist fruit preparations for the food processing industry. Zentis also covers significant sections of the South American market. Overall, the proportion of exports is 28 percent.In order to meet specific local customer requirements quickly and effectively, Zentis operates production facilities and subsidiaries in its most important markets.
- In Germany, two plants in Aachen employ more than 1,300 people to produce fruit preparations for the dairy and bakery industries, jams, sweet cream spreads and confectionery products.
- In Hungary, Zentis Hungaria Bt. located in Drégelypalánk produces fruit preparations for the dairy, ice-cream and bakery industries.
- In Poland, Zentis Polska Sp. z.o.o. located in Zelków produces fruit preparations for the dairy, ice-cream and bakery industries.
- In the USA, Zentis Food Solutions in Plymouth (Indiana) produces fruit preparations for the dairy, ice-cream and bakery industries.
- In Russia, OOO Zentis Russia located in Moscow and Raos produces fruit preparations for the dairy, ice-cream and bakery industries, and for confectionery.
- In addition to production and sales companies, Zentis Logistik Service GmbH is also part of the Group. It operates 70 specialist vehicles for transporting fresh products. They are based at plant 2 in Aachen-Eilendorf.

Innovative product concepts are the foundation of success alongside the manufacturing and processing technologies developed in a partnership of close cooperation with industrial customers.Virtually all major dairies in Germany and Europe rely on the experience gathered by Zentis over the years. The fruit processed by Zentis gives yoghurt, fruit quark and other dairy products their fruity taste. Zentis products also refine them with stable cereals and stable chocolate chips which are mixed directly with the products or chocolate-coated cereals like flakes or chocolate balls for 2-chamber products.The traditional company based in Aachen also produces pastes for the bakery and confectionery industries. The product range covers fruit and cream fillings resistant to freezing and baking. It includes marzipan pastes for a variety of applications before baking, fruit fillings, jams, cream and special fillings, glazes and decorations for filling, covering, processing and refining after baking has been carried out.Zentis supplies industry and consumers. The company is well established as a premium brand in the consumer sector with premium image values. Zentis jams take second place in sales rankings for Germany and Zentis is the world leader in the market for marzipan.

Complemented by a high level of innovation, the factor that marks Zentis out above all is its thorough and comprehensive approach to quality control. In the course of almost 120 years, these strengths have established Zentis as one of the most important fruit processors in Europe.The ingredients are subject to detailed checks, all work stages are rigorously supervised, and stringent controls are used to monitor filling processes. Absolute compliance with strict hygiene regulations is a matter of course. Zentis was one of the first companies to receive certification in conformity with DIN ISO 9001. This certification has meanwhile been replaced by IFS standards (International Featured Standard Food) and BRC (Global Standard for Food Safety) that are specific to food safety. Since 1993, Zentis has been awarded “higher level” or “A Grade” for every inspection in accordance with IFS and BRC. This gives the company the highest scores for best quality throughout the production process. Since 2011, Zentis has also been certified in accordance with the requirements of Food Safety System Certification 22000:2010 (FSSC). Key elements of this certification include food safety, personnel and operational hygiene, transparent traceability and a continuous process of training for members of staff.
