Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between marmalade, jam and fruit spreads?

The legislator has defined exactly the terms "Marmalade" and "Jam" in the Jam-Ordinance. Marmalade is today only allowed to be industrially produced as a sweet spread made from citrus fruits (because the fruit e.g. from an orange is no longer recognizable as a fruit after the cooking process) as well as home-made marmalades. Jam is distinguished by way of its fruit content and recognizable fruit pieces. At Zentis we only manufacture jams and jelly extra for the consumer market.

Why does 45g/55g fruit + 63g suga

The given sugar content cannot be added to the fruit content so as to come to 100g. With the statement of 63g of sugar it is a question of the total sugar content of the jam, which is made up of the added sugar and the average fruit sugar contained in the corresponding fruit.

How can puree or apple kraut contain more than 100% fruit?

For the manufacture of 100 grammes of the product corresponding to the description over 100% fruit with reference to the finished product is used. This is cooked with the recipe`s components. By way of humidity extraction the fruit percentage is reduced, until all the parameters of the product specification are fulfilled. These parameters are specified in the Jam-Ordinance.

Why can traces of nuts be found in Belmandel Almond-Nougat-Spread?

These products are manufactured on the same manufacturing lines as our Nusspli Nut-Nougat Spread. In spite of particularly careful measures during the manufacturing you cannot exclude the possibility that the slightest traces of hazelnuts are found in the product. According to the recipe no hazelnuts are added in these products.

What does GDA stand for?

GDA means Guideline Daily Amount. This provides a guide to the daily intake of food required. The guideline daily amount (GDA) is based on the recommendations of an international scientific committee. GDAs are guidelines to a healthy adult or child’s average daily requirement of calories, protein, carbohydrates, sugar, saturated fatty acids, fibre and sodium.
The daily requirement varies according to gender, age and level of physical activity. For example, men require a higher daily intake of food and more calories than women.

Do you give guided tours of your plant?

The plant site of Zentis GmbH & Co. KG has grown in its task since its land development in 1917. Continuous production growth made an expansion of the company site essential, which soon reached its limitations. Today we have to accommodate the most up-to-date production plant in limited space. Moreover, we are subject to, as every food manufacturing company is, strict legislative and our own hygiene regulations as well as to safety requirements (accident risks in the boiling/bottling section at high temperatures, the danger of slipping caused by wet/condensed water etc.). Please bear in mind that for these reasons it is not possible for us to have guided tours for groups of visitors through the factory and at the same time to guarantee the appropriate safety for guests and the high quality of our products.

Do you sell your products directly from the factory?

We do not sell our products on site. However, there is the possibility of visiting our staff outlet in Jülicher Straße in Aachen. Opening times are as follows: Monday to Friday from 09.00 to 11.45 and from 12.30 to 16.30.

Can you buy goods in small quantities directly from you?

A distribution and mail-order for smaller quantities is unfortunately not planned.
